Hi all. Got a ticket on the Blue Ridge Parkway two weeks ago (who
knew the speed limit was 45? That's criminal). Long story not worth
telling, it made sense to pay it rather than fight it, so I sent in a
check for a hundred bucks. Does anyone know of a website that might
let you make sure your payment is received and your name cleared?

Thanks.

In what state & what county did you get the ticket in? The road's only
about 470 miles long.

Shouldn't matter. It's a federal ticket, isn't it?

I seem to recall there are 45mph speed limit signs all along the road.
Wonder how Luke missed them? <g>

I guess in the national parks it would be, but is the whole road considered
a park and only patroled by park police?

The Federal Park Police in NC seem more enforcement-oriented (read speed
trap) than their VA counterparts.

Funny, I found it just the opposite.

No - speeding is ;^>

And here is the most recent story about a accident involving speed on the
BRP... From www.nbc29.com...

"Blue Ridge Parkway officials have identified a Staunton man who fatally
crashed his motorcycle Sunday afternoon. 30 year old David Shawn Harvey
was killed when he lost control around a turn, seven miles south of
Interstate 64. Harvey was reportedly riding with two other motorcyclists
when the crash occurred. Virginia state police reconstructed the accident
and say speed played a role in the wreck. Harvey was riding with a
passenger on his motorcycle, who is recovering at Augusta Medical Center."

From what I saw on the news, it looked like a Yamaha R bike - not enough
still together in the picture to be sure.

The Skyline drive (From Rt.64 to Front Royal, VA.) is 35mph, from Rt.64 to
Cherokee, NC, it's 45mph - and a damn nice ride!

As to the ticket - you did get a copy of it, right? It should have info on
who to contact to see if your up to date on your payments.

Ride safe,
Bob

You may have actually been on the Skyline Drive then. It has a speed
limit of 35mph. Except for a few speed zones the limit on the BRP is
45mph for all 450ish miles.

I just got backk from riding the entire length of the Skyline Drive
and BRP on my Royal Enfield Bullet. Even got to skool a few
Hardley-Ableson riders poking along riding their brakes, wobbling
through the turns and riding on the centreline. (with their H2 Hummer
pulling a H-D sticker encrusted enclosed trailer with them). 2
Harleys, with more displacement and twice the HP of several CARS i've
owned, schooled by 500cc's and 20hp of Thumper power. Farging
pathetic.

There's a fairly lengthy section of 35 mph on the viaducts near Grandfather
Mountain at the south end. Otherwise, it's predominantly 45 mph.

Got my only speeding ticket on the BRP, 58 mph in a 45 zone, $25 which I
promptly paid and regard as a very fair toll.

Was this recently? What department gave it to you? I'd say getting caught
13 over and only a $25 fine is not much to complain about!

1988 or so on a Yamaha Vision XZ550, I regarded it as a bargain. The road
is worth it, I try to get down that way once a year at least. This year it
will be the first week of September on a red Kawasaki Concours. Wave if you
seem me doing 58.
